Court & Pre-Trial Emotional Support

When you are involved in legal proceedings, it can feel as though your whole life has been put on hold.

You may be waiting for a hearing, preparing to give evidence, dealing with an ongoing investigation, navigating family court, or simply trying to get through each day while not knowing what is going to happen next.

The worry can follow you everywhere. You might find yourself constantly thinking about the outcome, struggling to sleep, feeling on edge, or finding that your emotions are much closer to the surface than usual. You may feel angry, frightened, exhausted or completely overwhelmed.

And sometimes, you may just feel very alone in it.

My background in children's social care has given me first-hand experience of how investigations, professional involvement and legal proceedings can affect individuals and families. I understand that behind the paperwork and court dates is a person trying to cope with something that can feel incredibly personal and difficult.

How counselling can help

Pre-trial and court-related therapy gives you somewhere to put everything you are carrying. A place where you can talk honestly about how this is affecting you, without having to put on a brave face or worry about being judged.

Our work is not about your legal case or trying to influence its outcome. It is about you. How you are feeling, how you are coping, and finding ways to help you feel a little steadier while you move through this difficult period.

Counselling can support you with anxiety, overwhelming emotions, difficult thoughts, sleep problems and the uncertainty that can come with legal proceedings.

Confidentiality

What you share with me is treated as confidential. However, when legal proceedings are ongoing, therapy records can, in some circumstances, be requested as part of the legal process.

I will talk this through with you at the beginning of our work, so you understand how your information is recorded and what confidentiality means when legal proceedings are involved. I keep proportionate and professional records in line with ethical guidance.

I believe it is important that you understand this from the outset, so you can feel informed and supported in deciding whether therapy feels right for you.

When the court case is over

Sometimes we expect everything to feel better once proceedings come to an end. But the emotional impact can stay with you long afterwards.

You may feel relief, anger, grief, disappointment or simply unsure of who you are now that something which has taken up so much of your life has ended.

Therapy can give you the space to process what you have been through and begin to look forward again. When the time is right, we can also explore deeper trauma-focused work.

My approach is warm, honest and straightforward. I will not tell you how you should feel or expect you to have everything figured out. We can simply start where you are.

You do not have to carry this on your own.
