What Is Pre Trial Therapy?

It focuses on emotional well being and psychological stability. Therapy provides a space to process feelings, manage anxiety and maintain resilience during a time that can feel uncertain or adversarial.
This support may be helpful during:

-
Criminal court proceedings
-
Family court and Child arrangement disputes
-
Domestic abuse related hearings
-
Civil disputes
-
Divorce and Separation proceedings

Pre trial therapy is therapeutic support offered while police investigation or legal proceedings are ongoing.
How Therapy Can Help During the Court Process
Court proceedings can intensify stress responses. You may notice:
• Increased anxiety or panic
• Sleep difficulties
• Heightened emotional reactivity
• Fear about hearings or giving evidence
• Strain within co parenting relationships
• Trauma symptoms resurfacing
Therapy during this time focuses on stabilisation, emotional regulation and strengthening your internal sense of steadiness. We work at a pace that feels safe and supportive while proceedings are ongoing.
Court Proceedings
If you are involved in court proceedings, whether as the person bringing a report, responding to allegations, or attending as a witness, therapy can offer emotional steadiness during what is often a highly stressful process.
When supporting clients alongside ongoing legal proceedings, I work with careful attention to professional boundaries and confidentiality. Our focus remains on the emotional impact of your experience, while staying mindful of the legal context.
Confidentiality and Legal Proceedings
Therapy is confidential. However, when legal proceedings are ongoing, therapy records can in some circumstances be requested.
This is discussed openly at the beginning of our work together so that you understand how records are kept and what confidentiality means within a legal context. I maintain proportionate and professional records in line with ethical guidance.
Clarity from the outset helps you feel informed and supported.
Post Trial Therapy and Ongoing Support
When court proceedings conclude, many people expect to feel immediate relief. In reality, the emotional impact can continue.
You may experience relief, disappointment, grief, anger or a sense of disorientation. Divorce settlements, child arrangement decisions or verdicts in criminal court can bring lasting change.
Post trial therapy offers space to process the outcome, integrate the experience and begin rebuilding a sense of stability. Where appropriate, we may move into deeper trauma focused work once legal matters have concluded.
